Children, labyrinths, schools & Avondale

World Labyrinth Day is approaching. Held annually on the first Saturday of May, school communities around the globe do World Labyrinth Day activities this same week.

What do they do?

Schools and groups use this time to talk with children about mental/emotional well-being and practice it with an activity like exploring labyrinths or walking a labyrinth. Labyrinths are used for relaxation, meditation and prayer and have been around for over 4,000 years. They have been used by many different cultures and religions and can be found today in hospital gardens, parks, churches, schools, and home gardens as they are known for their meditative properties.

Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte has a labyrinth that is open to the public to walk.

Around the globe, people "walk at 1 (PM) as one" on World Labyrinth Day, creating a moving meditation for world peace. Classrooms can enjoy a finger labyrinth activity to talk about meditation/mindfulness and peace. A children's labyrinth activity can be done anytime, not just the first week of May!

Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte shares labyrinth information and printable finger labyrinths for groups and schools use. Find information here: https://www.avondalepresbychurch.org/labyrinth
